Mixes

I always try to create various value streams of color, not mixing solid colors but having marbled colors, starting from dark to light. That way I can pick up various shades, without mixing, as I go.

  • SG+IB = very dark green
  • SG+IB+YO = medium green
  • SG+touch of IB+CY= light green
  • AC+CO = bright dark orange
  • CO+BS = dark orange
  • YO+CO = medium orange
  • YO+ TW = light golden yellow
  • CY + various amounts of TW = various shades of yellow
  • TRR + AC = medium to dark shades of pink
  • AC+ PB = various shades of purple

Medium

Safflower Oil (artist grade) diluted to 50/50 – with Galkyd Lite Medium (has a dryer in it). You can use any painting medium (liquid clear, 1/4 linseed oil mixed with 3/4 odorless thinner, walnut oil mixture, etc.
